Division I Badgers Defeat Titans In Exhibition Contest

Nikki Arneson and Leah Porath scored 12 points apiece as the nationally ranked NCAA Division III UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team lost an 81-47 exhibition contest to Division I member University of Wisconsin Sunday (Oct. 31) in Madison.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 17th in Division III by D3hoops.com, shot 50% (7-14) from the field and held a 7-6 lead during the first quarter before University of Wisconsin went on to outscore the Titans, 60-31, over the final three periods.

Porath collected a team leading six rebounds and two assists. Arneson, who went 2-for-3 from 3-point range, chipped in a pair of rebounds and an assist.

Jenna Jorgensen and Kennedy Osterman both added six points for the Titans, who also received five points from Julia Silloway and two each from Abby Kaiser, Mackenzie Tlachac and Kayce Vaile.

Porath, Ava Douglas and Kendal Schramek each had a team high two assists for the Titans. Kaiser recorded UW-Oshkosh's lone block.

University of Wisconsin, which knocked down 10 3-pointers on 21 attempts, held advantages of 34-24 in rebounds, 23-11 in assists, 10-11 in turnovers, 8-6 in steals and 7-1 in blocks. The Badgers shot 54.4% (31-57) from the floor overall and 81.8% (9-11) at the free throw line in the University of Wisconsin debut for head coach Marisa Moseley.

UW-Oshkosh, playing an exhibition at University of Wisconsin for the second time since 2009, finished Sunday shooting 18 of 54 (.333) from the field, 6-for-19 (.316) from the 3-point line and 5-for-6 (.833) at the foul line. The Titans suffered previous exhibition setbacks of 103-39 in 2009 and 79-51 in 2018 against the Badgers.

University of Wisconsin's Julie Pospisilova led all players with 15 points. The Badgers featured four double digit scorers as Sydney Hilliard had 13, Katie Nelson 12 and Alex Luehring 11. Hilliard grabbed a team best six rebounds while Nelson dished out a game best six assists and registered a pair of steals.

UW-Oshkosh claimed its 7-6 lead following an Arneson layup with 6:06 left in the first quarter. Porath knotted the score at 9 with a layup of her own less than a minute later, but University of Wisconsin regained the lead for good at 12-9 on a Nelson 3-pointer at the 4:18 mark of the opening period.

Osterman drilled a 3-pointer to cut the Titans' deficit to 14-12, and Kaiser scored in the lane to pull UW-Oshkosh within 19-16 with 23 seconds remaining in the first quarter. However, the Badgers shot 50% or better from the floor in each quarter en route to securing the victory, building leads of 21-16 after one period, 40-27 at halftime and 64-40 entering the fourth quarter.

UW-Oshkosh plays NCAA Division II member Michigan Technological University in an exhibition game Thursday (Nov. 4) in Houghton, Mich.
