Schmidt Repeats As All-Region Basketball Selection

UW-Oshkosh junior guard Taylor Schmidt was named to D3hoops.com's NCAA Division III All-Central Region Women's Basketball Team for the second straight season.

Schmidt, who repeated as a second team selection, was the Titans' leading scorer this past season with an average of 11 points per game. She also paced UW-Oshkosh with 37 3-pointers and a .813 (65-80) free throw percentage while finishing second on the squad with 78 assists and 44 steals.

A two-time All-WIAC first team selection, Schmidt ranked 11th in the WIAC in scoring this past season. She also led the league in 3-point percentage (.416) while listing fourth in free throw percentage, fifth in assists per game (2.69) and sixth in 3-pointers.

Schmidt scored 21 or more points in a game three times this year, including 23 to tie a season high during the Titans' 65-64 victory over UW-River Falls in the title game of the WIAC Championship on Feb. 27. She also tallied 23 points in UW-Oshkosh's 79-66 win over UW-Whitewater on Jan. 20.

Schmidt has started all 89 games for UW-Oshkosh the past three seasons. The Titans have compiled a 72-17 record in those 89 games, including a 23-6 mark this past year when it won the WIAC's postseason tournament for the third straight season.

Schmidt has helped lead UW-Oshkosh to the NCAA postseason during each of her three seasons. The Titans advanced to the second round the past two years after reaching the third round during Schmidt's freshman campaign.

Schmidt's career includes averages of 10.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.

D3hoops.com, which has named women's all-region teams since 2002, selected five players to both the first and second teams and six players to the third.

The first team was comprised of guards Katie McDaniels from Wheaton College (Ill.) and Jordan Thompson from Washington University (Mo.), forwards Holly Denfeld from Milwaukee School of Engineering and Lana Wieseman from Beloit College, and center Erin O'Toole from UW-Eau Claire. McDaniels was chosen as the region's Player of the Year.

Joining Schmidt on the second team were guard Morgan Harris from Carthage College and forwards Mikaela Eppard from Elmhurst College (Ill.), Amanda Martinez from Washington University and Jen Dowden from Wisconsin Lutheran College. Dowden was selected as the region's Rookie of the Year.

Named to the third team were guards Malory Christenson from Carroll University, Brynn Liljander from UW-River Falls, Liz Rehberger from North Park University (Ill.) and Stephanie Weigman from St. Norbert College, and forwards Taylor Karge from UW-River Falls and Allie Miceli from UW-Stevens Point.

Cindy Holbrook from UW-River Falls was named the region's Coach of the Year.
