Titans Clip Duhawks To Remain Unbeaten

The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team committed the fewest turnovers in program history during its 69-52 victory over Loras College (Iowa) on Wednesday (Dec. 9) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans, who entered the contest ranked second in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.44) and fourth in turnovers per game (11.8), had just four turnovers against Loras College. The Titans' previous low for turnovers were the five committed against both UW-Superior on Feb. 15, 2003, and Viterbo University on Nov. 21, 1998.

UW-Oshkosh's four turnovers were also the fewest this season by any of the 420 teams in the NCAA Division III, surpassing the five committed by four different teams.

The Duhawks (4-3) outrebounded UW-Oshkosh, 47-24, but turned the ball over 24 times. The Titans scored 23 points off Loras College miscues, while the Duhawks tallied just four points off UW-Oshkosh turnovers.

UW-Oshkosh (7-0), ranked fifth in the nation by D3hoops.com, also held advantages in field goal percentage (.452 to .400), assists (13-9) and steals (9-2).

Eliza Campbell paced the Titans with a season-high 17 points off the bench. She connected on 6 of 8 shots from the floor, including all three of her attempts from 3-point range, and both of her tosses from the free throw line.

Morgan Kokta added a season-best 11 points and three assists for UW-Oshkosh, which also received 10 points from Alex Richard and seven apiece from Ashley Neustifter and Isabella Samuels. Neustifter led all players with four assists, while Campbell and Neustifter tied for the team lead with four rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh scored nine unanswered points to take a 17-8 lead late in the first quarter before Loras College closed the gap to 17-12 at the end of the period on consecutive layups in the final 70 seconds.

The Titans tallied nine of the first 11 points of the second quarter for a 26-14 advantage, but the Duhawks cut their deficit to 26-18 on a layup by Megan Jones with 6:25 left in the first half. UW-Oshkosh responded by scoring 10 straight points to double up Loras College, 36-18, at the 3:11 mark.

Campbell started the Titans' decisive 10-point skein with a pair of free throws that were followed by layups from Taylor Schmidt, Campbell, Kokta and Samuels on consecutive possessions. Campbell's two free throws gave UW-Oshkosh a 10-point lead, and the Titans maintained a double-digit spread for the last 25:50 of the contest.

UW-Oshkosh held a 39-22 lead at intermission, and both teams scored 15 points apiece in the final two quarters. The Titans led by as many as 23 points on two occasions (60-37 and 63-40) during the fourth period.

Lori Obendorf led Loras College with 12 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks.

Terese McMahon and Kat Cabrera added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Duhawks, who ended the game 0-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc.

UW-Oshkosh reserves outscored the Duhawks bench by a 28-8 count.

The Titans have won five of the seven meetings between the teams.

UW-Oshkosh closes out its three-game home stand against St. Norbert College on Saturday (Dec. 12) in Kolf Sports Center.
