Morgan Kokta made a 3-pointer on the first possession of the game and the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team never trailed during a 74-49 victory over Defiance College (Ohio) in the opening round of the Beth Baker Classic on Friday (Nov. 20) in Wheaton, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, improved its record to 3-0 for the sixth straight season.

Eliza Campbell led 12 UW-Oshkosh scorers with 12 points. She made 5 of 7 shots from the field and 2 of 3 tosses from the free throw line as the Titans finished the game shooting 47.5 percent (28-59) from the floor and 80 percent (12-15) from the charity stripe.

The Titans limited Defiance College to 33.3 percent (17-51) shooting from the field, including a 31.8 rate (7-22) in the second half. UW-Oshkosh also held a 20-11 advantage in turnovers.

Alex Richard added 10 points and five rebounds for UW-Oshkosh, which also received nine points and a game-high seven assists from Ashley Neustifter, and nine points, five rebounds and five assists from Taylor Schmidt.

Emma Melotik chipped in eight of UW-Oshkosh's 37 bench points.

Kokta's long-range jumper nine seconds into the game was followed by layups from Richard and Neustifter for a 7-0 UW-Oshkosh lead with 6:13 left in the first quarter. A 3-pointer by Kendell Truttman extended the Titans' advantage to 18-3 with 77 seconds left in the opening period before the Yellow Jackets trimmed their deficit to 19-6 after one quarter.

UW-Oshkosh maintained a double-digit cushion until Defiance College's Shelby Stamm converted a three-point play to get the Yellow Jackets within 36-28 with 70 seconds left in the first half. A 3-pointer by Schmidt and a pair of free throws from Neustifter provided UW-Oshkosh with a 41-28 advantage at halftime.

The Titans tallied nine of the first 11 points of the third quarter for a 50-30 lead three minutes into the second half. UW-Oshkosh increased its advantage to 62-39 after three periods and held its largest spread of 25 points when Lauren Peterson capped the scoring by splitting a pair of free throws with 33 seconds remaining.

UW-Oshkosh held a double-digit advantage for nearly 33 minutes of the contest.

Defiance College's Sam Ervin led all players with 15 points. Erica Smay added 11 points for the Yellow Jackets (0-2), while Kelsey Tietje chipped in nine points and a game-high eight rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh concludes play at the Beth Baker Classic by battling Saint Mary's College (Ind.) on Saturday (Nov. 21).
