Fifth-Ranked Titans Defeated By 24th-Ranked Green Knights

UW-Oshkosh committed a season-high 20 turnovers while shooting a season-low 34 percent from the field during its 62-50 loss to the St. Norbert College women's basketball team on Saturday (Nov. 29) in De Pere.

The contest involved a pair of Top 25 teams, as UW-Oshkosh (5-1) was ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com and St. Norbert College (5-1) 24th. The loss snapped the Titans' three-game winning streak over the Green Knights.

UW-Oshkosh lost the basketball 12 times in the first half and eight in the second to surpass its previous season high of 16 turnovers set in the opener against Hamline University (Minn.) on Nov. 15. St. Norbert College totaled 17 turnovers, with 12 of them occurring in the first period.

The Titans converted 17 of their 50 shots against the Green Knights, but just eight of their 27 attempts (29.6 percent) in the second half. UW-Oshkosh's previous season low for field goal shooting was 38.3 percent, a mark that was set in Tuesday's (Nov. 25) win over Edgewood College.

UW-Oshkosh also shot 30 percent (3-10) from three-point range and 76.5 percent (13-17) from the free-throw line against St. Norbert College.

The Green Knights were accurate on 51.9 percent (27-52) of their shots from the field and 71.4 percent (5-7) of their tosses from the free-throw stripe. St. Norbert College made three of its nine three-point shots (33.3 percent).

Katelyn Kuehl scored a season-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds for UW-Oshkosh. The Titans also received eight points and three rebounds from Taylor Schmidt. UW-Oshkosh's Alex Richard collected a game-high nine rebounds.

St. Norbert College had four double-digit scorers, including Jill Kleiman who totaled 19 points while counting four rebounds and four steals. The Green Knights also obtained 13 points and four assists from Brianna Byrne and 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots from Tasha Giese. St. Norbert College's Heidi Van Sistine scored 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots.

St. Norbert College opened the game with a 10-2 lead. The Titans then scored 11 straight points, including six by Eliza Campbell, to take a 13-10 advantage with 11:41 left in the first half.

UW-Oshkosh led 19-18 before St. Norbert College scored seven straight points to take a 25-19 advantage with 2:11 remaining. Regan Carmichael drained a three-point shot with 48 seconds left to give the Green Knights a 30-23 halftime lead.

UW-Oshkosh got as close as 32-26 in the second half, but four straight St. Norbert College points gave the Green Knights a 36-26 lead with 17:39 left.

Leading 36-29, St. Norbert College put together a 16-7 run over the next 8:30 to take a 52-36 advantage with 8:16 remaining. Byrne sparked the Green Knight run with seven points.

St. Norbert College led by double-digits the final 11:50 of play, including a 58-40 score with 3:10 to go.

UW-Oshkosh opens WIAC play at defending league champion UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Dec. 3).
