Titans Double-Up Score On V-Hawks

The fifth-ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team overcame an early nine-point deficit and coasted to a 90-44 victory over Viterbo University on Tuesday (Nov. 18) in Kolf Sports Center.

The NAIA V-Hawks raced out to a 13-4 lead in the first six minutes, but the Titans scored 36 of the last 44 points of the opening period for a 40-21 advantage at halftime. UW-Oshkosh closed the first half with 12 straight points.

Trailing 13-5, UW-Oshkosh (3-0) made eight consecutive shots from the field, including three by Eliza Campbell, to take a 25-18 lead. A Campbell 3-pointer gave the Titans the lead for good at 18-16.

Viterbo University (2-5) made six of its first seven attempts from the field but was held scoreless for the last 5:55 of the opening period.

The Titans recorded 10 steals and shot 53.6 percent (15-28) from the floor in the first half.

UW-Oshkosh connected on its first six shots and eight of 10 to start the second half on the way to building a 67-33 lead with 10:20 remaining. The Titans shot a blistering 69 percent (20-29) from the field and registered 16 assists in the second half.

UW-Oshkosh's largest lead of the contest was an 88-41 score with 2:17 remaining.

The Titans ended the game shooting 61.4 percent (35-57) from the field and committing just eight turnovers. UW-Oshkosh converted 40 percent (6-15) of its 3-point shots and 82.4 percent (14-17) of its free throws. The V-Hawks committed 17 turnovers and had a 36.2 field goal percentage (17-47).

Campbell, Katelyn Kuehl and Emma Melotik led UW-Oshkosh with 11 points apiece. Campbell has scored at least 11 points in each game this season, while Melotik's total was a career-best. Kuehl was 5-for-5 from the floor and recorded game highs with eight rebounds and three steals. Morgan Kokta added 10 points and a game-best six assists for the Titans.

Twelve Titans tallied points, including eight apiece by Ashley Neustifter, Alex Richard and Taylor Schmidt, and a career-high seven by Taylor Dagon.

Whitney Hanson led Viterbo University with 12 points and seven rebounds. Jenna Engh, who entered the game averaging a team-high 18.2 points, added 11 points and three assists for the V-Hawks.

UW-Oshkosh plays the first of four straight road games at Loras College (Iowa) on Saturday (Nov. 22).
