Women’s Basketball Team Gains Academic Award
UW-Oshkosh was named to the Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The Titans compiled a 3.48 team GPA, ranking 23rd nationally. UW-Oshkosh's GPA was seventh among teams that qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Freshman Claire Emmerich led the squad with a 4.0 GPA. UW-Oshkosh also received high marks from Sarah Stecker (3.90), Alissa Schuh (3.85) and Alicia Tollefson (3.84).
On the court, the Titans posted their best season in 15 years. UW-Oshkosh reached the Sweet Sixteen, won the WIAC Tournament and finished with a 26-4 record. Brad Fischer gained Central Region Coach of the Year, while Stecker and Katelyn Kuehl collected All-WIAC honors.
"I couldn't be prouder of our young women for exemplifying what 'student-athlete' really means," Fischer said. "It's an annual goal to finish the school year in the Top 25 both in the classroom and on the court. To pair an incredible Sweet Sixteen season with a tremendous performance in the classroom speaks to the quality of the individuals who represent our University and program."
The Academic Top 25 annually recognizes women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPA inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.
"Being a student-athlete is a challenging feat, but at the same time it's also very rewarding, and to see the GPA's that these institutions have collected is impressive," said WBCA COO Shannon Reynolds. "The WBCA congratulates all of these student-athletes and their coaches for their hard work and dedication."
University of Missouri-Kansas City (3.63) owned the best GPA in Division I, while Upper Iowa University (3.80) topped Division II and Westminster College (Mo.) led Division III at 3.64.
