Kuehl, Stecker Voted To All-WIAC Basketball Team

UW-Oshkosh's Katelyn Kuehl and Sarah Stecker were selected to the first team of the 2014 All-WIAC Women's Basketball squad.

This is the first all-conference honor for both Titans. A total of 10 players were chosen to the first team.

Kuehl, a junior forward, averaged a team-leading 7.4 rebounds to rank third in the WIAC. She also averaged 10.3 points, while compiling 58 assists and 37 steals.

During UW-Oshkosh's two-game run to the WIAC Tournament title, Kuehl totaled 35 points, 15 rebounds and six assists. She grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds at both UW-La Crosse on Dec. 11 and UW-Platteville on Feb. 5. Her scoring best was 19 points in a loss to UW-Whitewater on Jan. 8.

Stecker, a senior center, shot 51.7 percent from the field to rank second in the league. She averaged a team-leading 11.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest. Stecker compiled 27 assists, 24 steals and 16 blocks.

Stecker tallied a career-high 26 points during an overtime win against UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 15. She marked double-digit rebounds three times, including 12 in a victory over UW-Platteville on Dec. 4.

Stecker has played in 103 games during her UW-Oshkosh career, totaling 645 points and 443 rebounds.

Other members of the All-WIAC First Team were Amy Mandrell, Mary Merg and Kaitlyn Thill from league champion UW-Whitewater, Stacy Clark and Alyssa Krajco from UW-Platteville, Teenie Lichtfuss from UW-Claire, Sally Linzmeier from UW-Superior and Myranda Tyler from UW-Stevens Point.

UW-Oshkosh guards Ashley Neustifter (sophomore) and Taylor Schmidt (freshman) received All-WIAC Honorable Mention. Neustifter averaged 7.4 points and led the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.87). Schmidt averaged 10.1 points, 2.9 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game.

Kuehl was one of six women voted to the All-Defensive Team. The remaining players were UW-Whitewater's Mandrell and Thill, UW-Superior's Linzmeier, UW-Stevens Point's Tyler and UW-Stout's Katelynne Folkers.

The league selected Linzmeier as its Player of the Year. UW-Whitewater's Keri Carollo was named Coach of the Year, while UW-Stevens Point's Tyler and UW-Whitewater's Merg shared the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
