Titans, Warhawks Meet In Saturday Night Showdown

Kolf Sports Center will host two nationally ranked women's basketball teams when No. 11 UW-Whitewater and No. 17 UW-Oshkosh battle on Saturday (Feb. 15) at 7 p.m.

The Warhawks (20-3/14-0 WIAC) have already clinched a share of the conference title. UW-Oshkosh (20-2/11-2 WIAC) sits in second place. The Titans lost at UW-Whitewater, 72-66, on Jan. 8.

UW-Oshkosh is expecting its largest home crowd since 2005, when 1,202 fans watched UW-Stevens Point defeat the Titans, 63-59, for a share of the conference crown.

This matchup features two of the most dominant teams in the NCAA Division III. UW-Oshkosh is outscoring its opponents by 15.1 points per game, while UW-Whitewater owns a scoring margin of 14.9.

The Warhawks lead the WIAC in three-point shooting, making 36 percent of their attempts. UW-Oshkosh will counter with the league's top three-point defense at 27 percent.

UW-Whitewater brings a 12-game win streak into Saturday's contest. The Warhawks' only losses this season came to Wheaton College (Ill.) on Nov. 30, Carthage College on Dec. 29 and Ohio Northern University on Dec. 30.

UW-Oshkosh has won four straight games since dropping an 85-80 double-overtime decision to UW-La Crosse on Jan. 29.

Kaitlyn Thill leads UW-Whitewater by scoring 13.6 points per game. Six players are averaging at least nine points for the Warhawks, who lead the league in scoring at 80.7 points. Amy Mandrell is a presence down low with averages of 12.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

UW-Whitewater has used the same lineup for all 23 games, while UW-Oshkosh started the same five players for the past 19 games. The Titans' balanced offense features scoring averages of 12.2 from Sarah Stecker, 10.9 from Taylor Schmidt and 9.8 from Katelyn Kuehl. Ashley Neustifter leads the WIAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.75), while Kuehl paces the Titans with 7.5 rebounds per game.

UW-Oshkosh coach Brad Fischer owns a career record of 40-8, and his .833 winning percentage is the WIAC's best since 1980.

The Warhawks are coached by Keri Carollo. She has posted a 227-105 record in 12 seasons.

UW-Whitewater holds a 162-41 record since 2008. The Warhawks have won four of the last seven WIAC titles and finished second at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship.
