Churchill, Boeder Selected To All-WIAC Squad

Seniors Shelby Churchill (Sheboygan) and Michelle Boeder (Oshkosh) never missed a game in their UW-Oshkosh careers, and they were both voted onto the All-WIAC Women's Basketball Team.

Churchill earned first-team accolades after ranking fourth in the league with an average of 8.5 rebounds per game. Boeder, who finished her collegiate career with 970 points, obtained All-WIAC honorable mention status.

Churchill topped the conference with 84 percent shooting at the foul line. She led UW-Oshkosh in both field goal percentage (44) and steals (30). One of Churchill's eight double-doubles was a 22-point, 12-rebound effort during a 65-58 loss to UW-Whitewater. She added 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a January defeat to UW-La Crosse, in addition to 17 points and 10 boards during a victory over Ripon College.

Starting all 76 games the last three years, Churchill averaged 8.5 points and eight rebounds. In 2008-09, she tallied 229 points, 30 assists and 34 steals while draining 35 percent from downtown. Churchill's junior season featured 33 assists, 25 steals and 10 blocks, to go along with eight rebounds per contest.

Boeder paced the Titans with 10.6 points per game, while Churchill was close behind at 10.5. In the past four years, Boeder started 85 of her 102 contests. This season, she posted career-highs in points, rebounds per game (3.7), steals (27), free-throw percentage (75) and three-point accuracy (40 percent). Boeder also tallied 53 assists and nine blocks.

The conference's leader in three-point percentage, Boeder also listed ninth in free-throw efficiency. She scored 17+ points on seven occasions, including a personal-best 22 in UW-Oshkosh's 61-52 win over UW-River Falls. In the other matchup with the Falcons, Boeder posted 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. During a road victory over UW-Superior, she marked 18 points and seven boards.

Boeder was extremely consistent her first three years, scoring 9.5, 8.9 and 9.0 points per game. Her junior season included 66 assists, 35 percent shooting (19-55) from behind the arc and three rebounds per game. Boeder passed out 38 assists during both her freshman and sophomore campaigns, while grabbing 90 rebounds and 24 steals in 2007-08.

Nine other players were named to the All-WIAC First Team, including Shelby's sister, Dana Churchill (UW-La Crosse). UW-Stevens Point placed Ashley Averkamp, Andrea Flease and Britta Petersen on the team. Other members on the top squad were Danielle Frank of UW-La Crosse, Tiffany Gregorich of UW-River Falls, Hannah Mesick of UW-Eau Claire, Dana Thompson of UW-Whitewater and Tricia VanVreede of UW-Stout.

League-champion UW-Stevens Point owned both the Player of the Year (Petersen) and Coach of the Year (Shirley Egner). Mesick and Dana Churchill shared the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete award.
