Titans Sweep Falcons On Alumni Day

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team defeated UW-River Falls 8-0 and 5-1 at the UW-Oshkosh Softball Park on Saturday (April 20).

The Titans (27-1, 5-1 WIAC) celebrated the life of former head softball coach Sharon Panske before the start of the first game against the Falcons (10-12, 0-4 WIAC). The first base patio was dedicated to Panske by UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt in conjunction with the Panske family and the UW-Oshkosh Athletics Department.

Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) threw her 10th complete game of the season and 12th win while striking out 13 batters in the series opener. She allowed just two hits and a walk in the shutout.

Morgan Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove) recorded the first RBI of the day on a single to center field in the second inning, scoring Haylie Wittman (So. • Kaukauna) who walked and advanced on a Sydney Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove) single and a passed ball.

Oshkosh added five runs in the third inning. Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) scored on a wild pitch, Sydney Rau scored on a Morgan Rau double, Morgan Rau scored when Zoe Malone (Sr. • Pittsburgh, Pa.) singled and Malone and Cali Divito (Jr. • Inverness, Ill.) registered additional runs on an Abby Garceau (Jr. • Michicot) tripled to right center.

The Titans walked off the Falcons in the bottom of the sixth inning when Morgan Rau singled to left center, sending Wittman across the plate.

Titan alumni were recognized on the field between games.

The Titans' starter in game two was Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du Lac), who went 4.0 innings with two strikeouts to improve her record to 10-0. She allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk.

River Falls got on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the second inning.

Morgan Rau responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to left field, her second of the season. Divito then gave the Titans the final lead of the day on a groundout to the shortstop that scored Morgan Miller (So. • Schaumburg, Ill.).

The remaining runs were recorded in the fourth inning as Sydney Rau tripled to right field which sent Garceau and Miller home and Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.) sent Sydney Rau home with a single to left center in the following at-bat.

Brianna Bougie (Fr. • Oshkosh) threw the final 3.0 innings, striking out three with just one hit allowed for her seventh save this season.

The Titans are set to host UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday (April 23) for a conference doubleheader at 2 p.m.
