Titans Shutout Raiders In Doubleheader

MILWAUKEE- The UW-Oshkosh softball team traveled down to Milwaukee to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Tuesday (April 16) at Raiders Field. The Titans won both games, by scores of 2-0 and 4-0.

Ranked No. 20 nationally by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the Titans extended their program record winning streak to 24-0 in the sweep and broke UW-Stevens Point's conference record of 23 straight games from the 1998 season. The Raiders sank to 12-16.

Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du Lac) struck out three over four innings and allowed two hits in her eighth start of the season, improving to 8-0. The final three innings were thrown by Brianna Bougie (Fr. • Oshkosh), who fanned five with two hits on her way to her fifth save of the season.

Oshkosh advanced runners to scoring position in the first and third innings before recording a run in the fourth when Morgan Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove) sent her sister, Sydney Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove) across the plate with a double to right field.

The Titans went down in order in the fifth inning and scored their second run of the first game in the top of the sixth as Morgan Miller (So. • Schaumburg, Ill.) knocked a shot over the outfield wall to boost Oshkosh's lead to two runs.

Bougie ended game one with a lineout and two strikeouts to close the door on MSOE.

Sydney Nemetz (Sr. • Marinette) started in the circle for Oshkosh in the nightcap. She struck out nine batters across five innings with four hits allowed and is now 10-0 on the season. Bougie once again tossed the final innings, going 2.0 with three hits, her sixth save and third in the last three games. She also pitched 1.2 innings in the second game against UW-La Crosse on April 13.

Oshkosh's scoring kicked off in the fourth inning again when Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) hit a solo home run with two outs in the top half of the frame.

Miller led off the fifth inning with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a passed ball before Sarah Hammerton (Fr. • Appleton) hit an RBI single to left field.

In the sixth inning, Wery hit her second home run shot of the game and fifth of the season for two RBIs. Zoe Malone (Sr. • Pittsburgh, Pa.) walked in the previous at-bat.

The Titans will face No. 23 UW-Whitewater on Wednesday for a doubleheader set to begin at 2 p.m.
