Titans Sweep Both Games in Clermont Doubleheader

CLERMONT, Fla.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team took down Kalamazoo College (Mich.) and Union College (N.Y.) in THE Spring Games on Tuesday (Mar. 26).

The Titans (14-0) defeated the Hornets (3-6) 17-2 in the first game and won 6-0 over the Dutchwomen (0-8) at Legends Way Ballfields.

Cali Divito (Jr. • Inverness, Ill.) and Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.) led the Titans across the day with four RBIs each while Morgan Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove, Ill.) scored four runs with three RBIs. All three hit two doubles and Brianna Davis (Jr. • Oshkosh) recorded two triples.

Oshkosh opened scoring in the second inning against Kalamazoo on a Divito double to right of center field, allowing Davis and Rau both to run home. Neither team counted runs through the third and fourth innings. The Titans then added five runs in the fifth inning when Garceau hit a single to center field to score Sarah Hammerton (Fr. • Appleton). Ritter recorded two RBI to make the score 5-0 before Davis tripled to left center, registering two more RBIs.

The sixth inning was scoreless and Morgan Miller (So. • Schaumburg, Ill.) opened the seventh after a throwing error allowed her to reach first, moving Davis to third and scoring Rau. Divito singled to left field, Garceau singled to shortstop, and Wittman singled through the right side in consecutive at-bats, all recording an RBI. Maddie Zaves (Fr. • Menasha), Wittman, and Garceau then scored off Rau's double to right center field. Davis tripled to left center allowing Rau to score before Lizzie Slobodecki (Jr. • Carol Stream, Ill.) produced an RBI. Slobodecki scored the last run on a double to left field from Divito.

The Hornets scored their only two runs in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game with a score of 17-2.

Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du Lac) pitched 5.0 innings for her third win of the season, allowing three hits and four walks while notching two strikeouts. Mia Crotty (Sr. • Palos Park, Ill.) pitched for the remaining 2.0 innings recording a strikeout with three hits and two runs (one earned).

Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) starting in the circle for the Titans against Union College recording a career high 16 strikeouts. She also allowed two hits and one walk throughout the 7.0 innings pitched. She forced three straight outs in four of her innings.

Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) hit a first inning home run to score the first two runs of the game.

Wery's home run allowed Hammerton to run home, making the score 2-0. In the bottom of the second inning, Garceau singled to the shortstop before Hammerton doubled to left center, as both recorded RBIs. The third inning was scoreless before Ritter singled up the middle in the fourth, allowing two RBIs for the Titans' final runs of the day.

The Titans will return on Thursday (Mar. 28) to play a doubleheader against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) and Colby College (Maine) at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. central time respectively.
