Titans Ousted From WIAC Tournament

A pair of disastrous sixth innings brought UW-Oshkosh's season to a close as it dropped games to UW-River Falls and UW-Superior on Friday (May 6) at the WIAC Women's Softball Tournament held in River Falls.

The regular-season champion Falcons broke up the shutout with four runs during their final at-bat to beat the Titans, 4-1. During its second contest, UW-Oshkosh took a 4-2 lead to the bottom of the sixth. UW-Superior then used a pair of doubles and Lindsay Garay's single up the middle to pull out a 5-4 triumph.

Neither UW-Oshkosh (21-17) nor UW-River Falls (23-13) tallied in the first five frames. After failing to score with two base runners in both the first and third innings, the Titans got a two-out rally during the sixth. Julia Burns (Jr. • Verona) blasted a two-bagger and then earned the 1-0 lead on a single from Tess Fadness (Fr. • Eau Claire).

The Falcons' comeback began with a Titan error. Ashley Goettl then doubled and Alyssa Black singled to each drive home a run. With two outs, UW-Oshkosh committed its second miscue of the frame to let in two more scores.

Rose Tusa fired all seven frames, striking out six, to defeat the Titans for the third time in four days. Courtney Wautier (So. • Brussels) was on the losing end after pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four unearned runs.

UW-Superior (24-14) was first on the board in the afternoon contest. The Yellowjackets marked four singles and two walks during the second frame, tallying on hits by Emily Eisenmann and Kayla Blom. UW-Oshkosh then came back to make it 2-1 on Kelley Koebler's fourth-inning single.

A trio of errors helped the Titans jump ahead during the sixth. Two runs came home on errors, while Sydnee Wyss (Sr. • Monroe) posted a RBI single to right field. That cushion didn't last, however, as Kalli Kucharyski smoked a two-run double to tie the score in the bottom half. Garay stepped up next and delivered the winning hit.

The Yellowjackets booked 13 hits, including two apiece by Garay, Kucharyski, Ashley Martin and Britnee Blake. UW-Oshkosh mustered seven hits off Amanda LeBard (win), who notched six punchouts and no earned runs in seven frames. Wautier took another loss with her six innings of five-run ball.
