Green Knights Slip Past Titans

A one-hit shutout from Kayla Krueger in the first contest and two late runs in game two helped St. Norbert College sweep a doubleheader over the UW-Oshkosh women's softball team on Wednesday (March 31) in De Pere.

The Titans (5-7) dropped the opener, 1-0, as Krueger tossed her pitching gem. The Green Knights (9-5) took the second contest, 3-1, using two runs in the fifth inning to break away from a tie game.

St. Norbert College marked the only run of the first contest with a home run blast from Brittany Narges in the second frame. UW-Oshkosh tallied its only hit of the game with a single from Lindsey Mikulecky (Fr. • Union Grove) during the third inning.

The Green Knights marked three hits in the first contest, getting one each from Krueger, Narges and Collette Ulmer. Krueger earned the victory, pitching all seven innings while striking out three and walking one.

Ashley Kowalewski (So. • Greenfield) took the loss for the Titans, surrendering one run on three hits and striking out four.

St. Norbert College marked first in the second contest with a solo homer by Krueger in the first inning. The Titans then knotted the game in the third frame when Amie Heinzelman (Sr. • Monroe) crushed a round-tripper of her own.

Tracy Palmer gave the Green Knights a 2-1 advantage in the fifth frame with her run-scoring double. Palmer later marked the game's final tally, scoring after Krueger reached on an error by the Titans.

Kari Corbeille earned the complete-game win for St. Norbert College. She allowed one run on three hits while striking out two batters.

Courtney Wautier (Fr. • Brussels) took the loss for the Titans, allowing three runs and seven hits over six innings of work.

UW-Oshkosh had three hits in the contest, receiving one each from Heinzelman, Jamie Braden (Jr. • Lake Villa, Ill.) and Marti Meyer (So. • Verona). The Green Knights had seven hits, with Palmer and Kristin Zimmerman leading the way with two each.
