Titans Split Lopsided Affairs

Courtney Wautier (Fr. - Brussels) threw a two-hitter in response to a one-hit shutout earlier in the day as the UW-Oshkosh women's softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Arkansas-Monticello and Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) on Tuesday (March 23) in Pensacola, Fla.

The Titans dropped game one, 14-0, after the Blossoms (27-5) broke the game open in the fifth inning with a pair of home runs. UW-Oshkosh (4-4) used six innings of solid pitching from Wautier to take the second game, 8-0, over the Lions (9-10).

The Blossoms scored a pair of runs in the second and third frames of the opener for an early 4-0 advantage. The Titans tallied their only hit of the contest on a single from Jamie Braden (Jr. - Lake Villa, Ill.) during the third inning.

After tallying three more runs in the fourth inning, the University of Arkansas-Monticello received a three-run home run from Becca Tipton. A two-run blast from Sarah Hayslip during the fifth frame upped the margin to 13-0.

Kayla Jackson earned the complete-game win for the Blossoms, allowing only one hit while striking out five and walking none.

Ashley Kowalewski (So. - Greenfield) took the loss for the Titans, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 3.1 innings. Tatum Schultz (Fr. - Oshkosh) pitched the final 1.2 frames for UW-Oshkosh, giving up seven runs and six hits.

UW-Oshkosh took the early advantage in game two, with Amie Heinzelman (Sr. - Monroe) knocking a double to left field. She later scored on a groundout from Kelley Koebler (So. - Janesville).

Heinzelman smashed a run-scoring double in the second inning and followed that with an RBI single in the fourth to give the Titans a 4-0 cushion. Later in the frame, Whitney Tornow (Sr. - Neenah) drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Amanda Schroeder (Fr. - Kaukauna).

The Titans held a 6-0 lead going in to the sixth inning, when Schroeder scored on another bases-loaded walk by Tornow. UW-Oshkosh tallied its final run of the game with Koebler's base knock.

Wautier earned the victory for the Titans, allowing two hits while striking out one in six innings of work. Britney Caldwell took the complete-game loss, surrendering eight runs while walking five and striking out four batters.

UW-Oshkosh had nine hits, receiving three apiece from Heinzelman and Schroeder, along with two from Koebler. Freed-Hardeman University tallied two hits in the contest, with one each by Brittany Steverson and Caldwell.
