Men's Cross Country Program Honored For Academic Performance

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized the UW-Oshkosh men's cross country program for its academic success during the 2018 fall semester.

Head coach Eamon McKenna's Titans compiled a 3.13 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as one of 178 NCAA Division III men's cross country programs that ended the recent fall session with a GPA of 3.10 or better.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology compiled a NCAA Division III-leading GPA of 3.78 last fall while California Institute of Technology followed at 3.73, Lewis & Clark College (Ore.) at 3.72 and Swarthmore College (Pa.) at 3.71.

Other WIAC programs honored for their academic performance were UW-Stout at 3.44, UW-Whitewater at 3.38, UW-La Crosse at 3.33, UW-Eau Claire at 3.18 and UW-Platteville at 3.15.

National champion North Central College (Ill.) accumulated a 3.26 GPA this past fall and was named the USTFCCA's NCAA Division III Scholar Team of the Year for the third straight season.

UW-Oshkosh also had sophomores Cody Chadwick and Lucas Weber named to the USTFCCA's All-Academic Team.

Chadwick owns a 3.53 cumulative GPA as an accounting major. Last fall he finished 67th at the NCAA Division III Championship, 26th at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional and 12th at the WIAC Championship. He also placed fourth at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Fall Classic, sixth at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational and 30th at the UW-Parkside Vic Godfrey Open.

Weber, who is undecided on his academic major, has a cumulative GPA of 3.30. He finished 143rd at the NCAA Division III Championship last fall while placing 21st at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional and eighth at the WIAC Championship. Weber also ranked second at both the UW-Oshkosh Titan Fall Classic and University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational, and 37th at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Pre-National Invitational.

Chadwick and Weber helped UW-Oshkosh finish fifth at the WIAC Championship and eighth at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional last fall.

In order to be eligible for All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of least 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional meet. A total of 300 student-athletes received All-Academic honors, including 18 from the WIAC.

North Central College's Dhruvil Patel was named the USTFCCA's NCAA Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
