Men’s Cross Country Program Cited For Academic Success

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized the UW-Oshkosh men's cross country program for its academic success during the 2017 season.

Head coach Eamon McKenna's squad was one of 167 NCAA Division III teams to finish the fall semester with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.10 or better. The Titans closed the semester with a 3.10 GPA to receive recognition by the USTFCCCA for the third time in four years.

California Institute of Technology compiled a NCAA Division III-leading GPA of 3.75 while Elms College (Mass.) followed at 3.74, Swarthmore College (Pa.) at 3.73 and Middlebury College (Vt.) at 3.71.

Other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) programs honored were UW-Eau Claire (3.30), UW-Platteville (3.21), UW-Stout (3.42) and UW-Whitewater (3.22).

UW-Oshkosh had two student-athletes, freshmen Cody Chadwick and Lucas Weber, named to the organization's All-Academic Team.

Chadwick owns a 3.54 cumulative GPA as an accounting major. Last fall he finished 26th at the WIAC Championship and 39th at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. Chadwick also placed 10th at the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational and 20th at UW-Oshkosh's Kollege Town Sports Invitational.

Weber, who is undecided on his academic major, has a cumulative GPA of 3.41. Last fall he ranked 37th at both the WIAC Championship and NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. Weber also finished second at the Roy Griak Invitational and fourth at the Kollege Town Sports Invitational.

Chadwick and Weber helped UW-Oshkosh finish seventh at the WIAC Championship and 10th at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.

In order to be eligible for All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of least 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional meet. A total of 300 student-athletes received All-Academic honors, including 14 from the WIAC.

UW-Eau Claire's Darin Lau was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year while North Central College (Ill.) collected the Scholar Team of the Year award.
