Men's Cross Country Duo Cited For Academic Success

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized two members of the UW-Oshkosh men's cross country team for their academic and athletic success during the 2016 season.

Named to the organization's NCAA Division III All-Academic Team were Titans Charlend Howard and Joe Zack. Both senior runners helped UW-Oshkosh to a fourth-place finish at the WIAC Championship held Oct. 29 in Stevens Point and a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional held Nov. 12 in Winneconne.

Howard, who was named to the All-Academic Team for the third straight season, finished 14th at the WIAC Championship and 23rd at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. He owns a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a kinesiology major.

Zack, who was selected to the All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year, placed 30th at the WIAC Championship and 32nd at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. He holds a 3.53 cumulative GPA as a biology major.

In order to be eligible for All-Academic recognition, honorees must have a cumulative GPA of least 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of the finishers at their respective regional. A total of 290 NCAA Division III student-athletes were honored by the USTFCCCA, including 15 from the WIAC.
