Miletti Runs At NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh's Tyler Miletti finished 114th among 278 runners at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship held Saturday (Nov. 19) at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.

Miletti, who was the Titans' lone participant at the national meet, completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:29. He finished 141st at last year's championship held at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

Miletti earned his trip to Kentucky's largest city by placing 13th at the Midwest Regional held Nov. 12 at Winneconne's Lake Breeze Golf Club. He also finished sixth at the WIAC Championship held Oct. 29 in Stevens Point.

Defending champion Ian LaMere of UW-Platteville won Saturday's race with a time of 23:41 while Ernie Pitone of Widener University (Pa.) finished second in 24:09 and Tim Nichols of Tufts University (Mass.) third in 24:10.

Isaac Garcia-Cassani of State University of New York at Geneseo placed fourth with a time of 24:18 and Dan Cheung of Allegheny College (Pa.) fifth in 24:19.

The top 35 runners earned All-America accolades by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

North Central College (Ill.) scored 60 points to easily win its second NCAA team title in three years and 17th overall. The Cardinals owned five of the meet's top 24 runners, including Zach Plank who finished ninth with a time of 24:35.

State University of New York at Geneseo placed second to North Central College with 204 points while defending champion UW-Eau Claire finished third with 209, Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) fourth with 216 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) fifth with 251.

Other top 10 teams in the field of 32 were sixth-place UW-La Crosse with 295 points, seventh-place Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 301, eighth-place Johns Hopkins University (Md.) with 316, ninth-place Williams College (Mass.) with 330 and 10th-place Loras College (Iowa) with 352.

UW-Oshkosh was not entered in the team competition despite finishing seventh at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional and fourth at the WIAC Championship. The Titans, a four-time national champion, placed 13th at last year's NCAA Division III Championship.
