Titans Place Sixth At Hoffman Invitational

The UW-Oshkosh men's cross country team finished in sixth place among 12 teams at the Tom Hoffman Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 17) in Whitewater.

Dan Massey led the Titans with a 21st-place effort among 163 competitors with his time of 28:16 on the 8,000-meter course.

UW-La Crosse, which had five of the top six individuals, won the invitational with 18 points, followed by runner-up UW-Whitewater with 78 points, third-place Milwaukee School of Engineering with 84, fourth-place UW-Stevens Point with 89, fifth-place UW-Platteville with 148 and sixth-place UW-Oshkosh with 186.

UW-Oshkosh also received scoring efforts from Derrick Rufer, Trevor Faldet, Corbin Bevry and Collin Borazo. Rufer finished 61st with a time of 29:13, Faldet 81st in 29:45, Bevry 82nd in 29:48 and Borazo 87th in 29:56.

UW-La Crosse's Thomas Schultz and Austin Zajkowski finished first and second, respectively, with times of 26:00 and 26:19.

Brett Harms from UW-Whitewater placed third with a time of 26:40, Ian Ewers from UW-La Crosse fourth in 26:50 and former UW-Oshkosh runner Roberto Lara, competing unattached, fifth in 27:02.

The Titans also had Nick Engels finish 90th in 30:01, Henry Laste 94th in 30:15, Nathan Nozzi 97th in 30:25, Jack Rindahl 98th in 30:27, Bennett Krueger 103rd in 30:36, Adian Welsch 120th in 31:22 and Isaiah Sample 132nd in 32:29.

UW-Oshkosh seeks to defend its title at the Roy Griak Invitational next Saturday (Sept. 24) in Falcon, Heights, Minn.
