Titans Run To Fourth Place In Season Debut
Charlend Howard placed sixth among 163 runners to lead UW-Oshkosh during its season-opening performance at the Midwest Men's Cross Country Open held Saturday (Sept. 10) in Somers.
Howard, who finished 13th in last year's meet, completed this year's 8,000-meter race in a time of 25:55. The Titans had three other runners place in the top 24 as Tyler Miletti finished 21st in 26:32, Jacob Rost 24th in 26:41 and Joe Zack 25th in 26:47.
Alec Miller of NCAA Division I Marquette University captured the individual title with a time of 25:43, while Caleb Abfall of NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee finished second in 25:45.
NCAA Division II UW-Parkside owned two of the next three finishers as Armando Torres placed third in 25:48 and Eric Lindelsee fifth in 25:49. Brian Eurton of NCAA Division II St. Joseph's College (Ind.) finished fourth with a time of 25:48.
In the team category, UW-Oshkosh finished fourth among the 12 competing squads with 113 points. Marquette University won the meet with 41 points while UW-Parkside finished second with 50, UW-Milwaukee third with 92 and NAIA Aquinas College (Mich.) fifth with 135.
Rounding out UW-Oshkosh's final individual scorer was Mitch Pauers, who finished 41st with a time of 27:12.
Also placing among the meet's top 120 runners were 63rd-place Trevor Damkot in 27:50, 85th-place Cole Considine in 28:14, 89th-place Fabian Salinas in 28:24, 96th-place Dan Massey in 28:29, 109th-place Nick Engels in 28:52, 110th-place Cody Chadwick in 28:52, 111th-place Bennett Krueger in 28:53, 117th-place Trevor Faldet in 29:06 and 119th-place Jack Rindahl in 29:10.
Other UW-Oshkosh participants at the meet were Henry Laste, Robert Szymanski, Collin Borazo, Corbin Bevry, Nathan Nozzi and Adian Welsch. Laste finished 127th in 29:21, Szymanski 130th in 29:24, Borazo 134th in 29:47, Bevry 139th in 30:00, Nozzi 141st in 30:12 and Welsch 152nd in 31:25.
UW-Oshkosh competes at UW-Whitewater's Tom Hoffman Invitational next Saturday (Sept. 17).
