Titans Run To Roy Griak Invitational Title

UW-Oshkosh totaled 69 points to capture the team title at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 24) in Falcon Heights, Minn.

Finishing behind the Titans were UW-La Crosse with 85 points, UW-Platteville in third with 104 points, Hamline University (Minn.) in fourth at 138 and UW-Eau Claire in fifth at 162 points. A total of 32 teams took part in the competition.

UW-Oshkosh entered the 8,000-meter race ranked 15th in the NCAA Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while UW-La Crosse listed eighth, Hamline University 19th and UW-Platteville 34th.

Nate Stymiest (Sr. • Oconto Falls) paced the Titans with his second-place finish in 25:47. Tyler Morey (Sr. • Combined Lakes) posted a time of 26:02 for eighth, as John Dewitt (Jr. • Oshkosh) used 26:08 for 14th, Sean Kutz (So. • Grantsburg) 26:11 for 17th and Ken Halloran (So. • Mount Prospect, Ill) 26:40 for 32nd.

Devin Monson of Hamline University outran 330 competitors with his winning mark of 25:33. Third place belonged to Michael Van Voorhis (Wisconsin Track Club) at 25:50, along with Kyle Heineman (Coe College) in 25:56 for fourth and David Stilin (UW-La Crosse) in 25:58 for fifth.

Other top-60 finishers for the Titans were Erik Hofferber (So. • Neenah) with a time of 26:45 for 35th place, Jake Keehan (Sr. • Green Bay) a 27:03 for 58th and Mark Allen (So. • Port Washington) a 27:03 for 59th.

UW-Oshkosh travels to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday (Sept. 30).
