Titans Take Fourth At Warhawk Invitational

UW-Oshkosh captured a steady fourth-place finish ahead of Jackson Community College (Mich.) in Saturday’s (Sept. 17) 8,000-meter race at UW-Whitewater.

UW-Platteville took first place with 28 points, followed by UW-Whitewater with 41, Lawrence University with 78, UW-Oshkosh with 113 and Jackson Community College (Mich.) with 165.

Nick Newcomer (Sr. • Winnebago, Ill) led the UW-Oshkosh men with his 23rd-place time of 28:04. Brett DeNure (Jr. • Monroe) posted a time of 28:14 to take 26th, along with Jake Hansen (So. • Waukegan, Ill) in 28:40 for 34th, Max Kramer (So. • Oshkosh) in 28:47 for 35th and Matt Champan (So. • Waukesha) in 28:48 for 37th.

Continuing for the Titans were Ryne Scopp (Fr. • Kenosha), Aaron Heiliger (So. • Madison) and Steve Stasek (Fr. • Stanley). Scopp finished in 29:02 for 40th, Heiliger in 29:16 for 48th and Stasek in 29:40 for 53rd.

Mathias Werve of UW-Whitewater outran 91 competitors with a winning time of 26:37. UW-Platteville’s Anthony Swimm came out second with a time of 26:44, ahead of Sam Stevens (Lawrence University) in 26:53 for third, Joe Dixon (UW-Whitewater) at 26:56 for fourth and Bill Cliff (UW-Platteville) at 26:57 to wrap up the top five runners of the meet.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Falcon Heights, Minn. for Saturday’s (Sept. 24) Roy Griak Invitational.
