Titans Grab Fourth-Place Finish At Carthage College Invitational
Minus nine runners who were competing at the Notre Dame
Invitational earlier in the day, UW-Oshkosh still had enough
ammunition to finish fourth at the Carthage College Men's Cross
Country Invitational held Friday (Oct. 2) in Somers.
Wheaton College (Ill.) won the eight-team meet with 24 points. The
Thunder cruised to the team title by owning four of the top seven
individual finishers.
North Central College (Ill.) placed second with 42 points, St.
Norbert College third with 111, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 133 and
Edgewood College fifth with 136. North Central College entered the
meet ranked first and UW-Oshkosh 18th in the NCAA Division III by
the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association.
UW-Oshkosh was led in the 8,000-meter race by William Koepp's
19th-place time of 27:36. Other runners figuring in the Titans'
team score were Tim Schraufnagel (Fr. • Neenah), Jordan King
(Fr. • Stevens Point), Brian Peterson (So. • Toluca,
Ill.) and Nick Newcomer (So. • Winnebago, Ill.). Schraufnagel
finished 21st among the 104 runners with a time of 27:41, while
King placed 36th in 28:07, Peterson 42nd in 28:15 and Newcomer 55th
in 28:41.
The Titans also had Phil Devine (So. • Winnebago, Ill.)
finish 67th in 29:12, Dan Rammer (Fr. • Appleton) 74th in
29:24, Brett DeNure (Fr. • Monroe) 86th in 30:00, Darius
Montazemi (Fr. • Minnetonka, Minn.) 90th in 30:27 and Scott
Ryman (Fr. • Belvidere, Ill.) 93rd in 30:45.
Jacob Austin of North Central College won the individual title
with a time of 26:13, while Brian Wurtz of Wheaton College finished
second in 26:17.
UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts the Brooks Invitational on Oct.
17 at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
