Titans Place Sixth At Notre Dame Invitational

UW-Oshkosh put together a strong performance and finished sixth out of 21 teams in the Gold Division of the Notre Dame Men's Cross Country Invitational held Friday (Oct. 2) in South Bend, Ind.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 18th in the NCAA Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, totaled 223 points as it competed with a mix of NCAA Division I, II and III schools.

North Central College (Ill.) won the team title with 46 points, while Grand Valley State University (Mich.) placed second with 52. North Central College entered the meet as the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, while Grand Valley State University was the third-ranked squad in the NCAA Division II.

Rounding out the top five teams were third-place Eastern Michigan University with 93 points, fourth-place UW-Stevens Point with 106 and fifth-place University of Notre Dame with 217.

UW-Oshkosh had all five scorers finish among the top 71 runners, including Nate Stymiest (So. • Oconto Falls) who completed the five-mile course in a 22nd-place time of 25:32. The Titans also had Josh Hoff (Sr. • Boyceville) finish 33rd in 25:38, Mike Jarchow (So. • Oshkosh) 44th in 25:52, John Dewitt (Fr. • Oshkosh) 63rd in 26:23 and Jonathan Wylie (Fr. • Oshkosh) 71st in 26:26.

Other UW-Oshkosh runners at the meet were Dusty Dorshorst (Sr. • Poynette), Grant O'Connell (Jr. • Appleton), Jake Keehan (So. • Green Bay) and Jeff Baudry (Sr. • Oakfield). Dorshorst finished 73rd among the 173 runners with a time of 26:27, while O'Connell placed 81st in 26:33, Keehan 98th in 26:51 and Baudry 153rd in 28:22.

The individual title went to Matt Graham of DePaul University (Ill.). Graham posted a winning time of 24:34, while Curtis Vollmar of Eastern Michigan University placed second in 24:40, Tyler Emmorey of Grand Valley State University third in 24:44, Nathaniel Hird of North Central College fourth in 24:49 and Tommy Kauffmann of Xavier University (Ohio) fifth in 24:58.

UW-Oshkosh is idle until it hosts the Brooks Invitational on Oct. 17 at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
