Falcons Nip Titans In Season Finale

Benjamin Nommensen pulled out a victory in the final singles match as Concordia University Wisconsin eked past the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team, 5-4, on Saturday (April 30) in Jackson.

Concordia University Wisconsin (17-7), which established a school record for wins, defeated UW-Oshkosh for the first time in program history. The Titans conclude the season with a 6-12 record.

Nommensen downed UW-Oshkosh's Vincent Gorski 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 in the first flight of singles to clinch the win for the Falcons.

Concordia University Wisconsin won two of the three doubles matches as Christian Docter and Ceejay Schaffner slipped past Adam Hawley and Adam Martin, 9-8 (7-5), in the second flight while Trevor Budewitz and Jonah Fowle defeated David Leffler and William O'Connell, 8-5, in the third.

UW-Oshkosh's top doubles tandem of Gorski and Ryan Kuzmanovic cruised by Nommensen and Brad Guendel, 8-2.

The Titans won the first two singles matches to take a 3-2 lead. Austin Laumb trounced Robert Spiering 6-1, 6-2 in the sixth flight before Hawley dispatched Schaffner 6-2, 6-3 in the third.

Concordia University Wisconsin reclaimed a 4-3 advantage with wins in the second and fourth flights of singles play. Docter outlasted Kuzmanovic 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 singles while Guendel bested Martin in set scores of 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-2).

UW-Oshkosh knotted the match at 4 apiece following the fifth flight of singles as Logan Zastrow defeated Budewitz 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-4).
