Blugolds, Eagles Give Titans Rough Time

UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse were both impolite visitors as they left the Kolf Sports Center outdoor courts on Saturday (April 23) with 9-0 victories over the host UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team.

UW-Eau Claire (15-5) defeated UW-Oshkosh (6-11) in the opener with the help of three very convincing wins, including Will Weyenberg's 6-0, 6-0 decision over Adam Martin at No. 3 singles. Weyenberg also teamed with Jordan Stevens to post an 8-0 triumph over David Leffler and William O'Connell at No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh players gave their best effort in the first and second flights of the singles competition and in the first flight of the doubles division.

UW-Oshkosh's Vincent Gorski lost a 6-3, 6-7 (10-8) decision to Kyle Hoffmann at No.1 singles, while the Titans' Ryan Kuzmanovic suffered a 6-7, 6-4 (10-3) defeat to Michael Mauthe at No. 2 singles.

In the No. 1 doubles contest, UW-Oshkosh's duo of Gorski and Kuzmanovic lost an 8-5 result to Hoffmann and Mauthe.

Andrew Dahl and Andrew Rust gave UW-Eau Claire the win at No. 2 doubles with their 8-2 victory over Martin and Adam Hawley.

The Blugolds completed their sweep of the Titans with individual wins by Stevens in the sixth flight, August Badura in the fourth and Conrad Felton in the fifth.

Stevens defeated Leffler, 6-1, 6-0, while Badura ousted Hawley, 6-2, 6-4. Felton posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Zastrow.

UW-La Crosse (12-9) earned its victory over the Titans by winning several close matches, including a pair of individual contests on a tiebreaker.

UW-La Crosse's Austin Stefanich went overtime to defeat Hawley by a 3-6, 6-3 (13-11) score at No. 3 singles, while the Eagles' Joey Schneider needed an extra session to oust Zastrow by a 7-6, 6-7 (10-5) result at No. 5 singles.

UW-Oshkosh lost a pair of competitive matches in doubles play. Gorski and Kuzmanovic lost an 8-5 decision to Hoffmann and Kyle Wogahn in the first flight, while Hawley and Martin came up short in their 8-6 loss Schneider and Matt Lindsay in the second.

The Eagles captured the No. 3 doubles contest as Sam Gowan and Joey Shubert defeated Zastrow and Jordan Andersen, 8-1.

UW-La Crosse's Tony Mirasola won the No. 1 singles contest with his 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gorski.

The Eagles also received individual victories from Wogahn in the second flight, Lindsay in the fourth and Simon Brandt in the sixth.

Wogahn won by a 7-5, 6-4 result over Kuzmanovic, while Lindsay won by a 7-6, 6-2 score over Martin. Brandt helped spoil UW-Oshkosh's final home match of the season with his 6-3, 6-0 victory over Austin Laumb.

UW-Oshkosh closes its season at Concordia University Wisconsin next Saturday (April 30).
