Red Men, Vikings Handcuff Titans

UW-Oshkosh had a tough time on the court as it lost 9-0 decisions to both the Augustana College (Ill.) and Carthage College men's tennis teams on Saturday (March 13).

The Titans (4-7) played Augustana College in Madison before traveling to Racine to battle Carthage College. The loss to Augustana College snapped UW-Oshkosh's four-match winning streak.

Augustana College (7-4) defeated UW-Oshkosh in 24 of the 31 games played during the doubles competition and won five of its six singles matches in straight sets.

The Vikings captured a pair of doubles contests by 8-2 scores as Carl Christensen and Jack Morkin defeated Vincent Gorski and Ryan Kuzmanovic in the second flight while Harald Olsson and Austin Schoeck ousted Jordan Andersen and Logan Zastrow in the third.

Augustana College's No. 1 doubles tandem of Eric Pohl and Samuel Totten claimed an 8-3 victory over Adam Hawley and Adam Martin.

UW-Oshkosh's best individual result against the Vikings came at No. 3 singles, where Hawley lost a 2-6, 6-1 (10-6) decision to Christensen.

Augustana College had a pair of 6-0, 6-1 individual victories as Totten defeated Gorski in the first flight while Patrick Lenz ousted Kuzmanovic in the second.

The Vikings finished off the Titans with Morkin's 6-3, 6-3 win over Martin in the fourth flight, Schoeck's 6-2, 6-3 victory over Zastrow in the fifth and Connor Woolf's 6-4, 6-0 triumph over David Leffler in the sixth.

Carthage College (7-5) was just as impressive against the Titans in the nightcap. The Red Men won 24 of the 30 games played during the doubles competition and captured five of their six singles contests in straight sets.

Carthage College took a pair of doubles contests by 8-1 scores as Alex Boomgarden and Ryan Jump defeated Hawley and Martin in the second flight while Lukasz Jaworski and Fordy Leipold ousted Leffler and William O'Connell in the third.

Chris Conley and Pawel Jaworski gave Carthage College the win at No. 1 doubles with their 8-4 decision over Gorski and Kuzmanovic.

Carthage College won a pair of 6-0, 6-0 individual contests as Boomgarden defeated Gorski in the first flight while Alex Ferruzzi ousted Andersen in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh put up its best fight at No. 5 singles, where Zastrow lost a 3-6, 6-3 (13-11) decision to Lukasz Jaworski.

Other individual winners for the Red Men were Jump in the second flight, Pawel Jaworski in the third and Conley in the fourth. Jump outscored Kuzmanovic, 6-2, 6-0, while Jaworski beat Martin, 6-2, 6-1. Conley posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Hawley.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts Wheaton College (Ill.) on April 2 at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.
