Titans Silenced By The Thunder
Wheaton College (Ill.) swept all six singles contests to pull away for an 8-1 victory over the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team on Saturday (April 2) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.
UW-Oshkosh (4-8) received a win from the tandem of Jordan Andersen and Logan Zastrow to trail 2-1 after the doubles competition. Andersen and Zastrow captured their third-flight match with a 9-8 (5) triumph over Josh Cheng and Brent Westergren.
Wheaton College (6-6) claimed the remaining two doubles contests with little trouble. Justin Ancona and Matt Steiner defeated Vincent Gorski and Ryan Kuzmanovic, 8-4, in the first flight, while Lincoln Metz and Dane Paulsen ousted Adam Hawley and Adam Martin, 8-2, in the second.
Wheaton College won five of the six singles contests in straight sets, including Ancona's 6-0, 6-1 victory over Gorski in the first flight and Paulsen's 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Kuzmanovic in the second.
The Thunder also received wins of 6-1, 6-2 from Steiner in the third flight, 6-3, 6-2 from Metz in the fourth and 6-2, 6-4 from Cheng in the sixth. Steiner defeated Martin, while Metz ousted Hawley and Cheng outscored Andersen.
Karl Wenzel concluded Wheaton College's list of individual winners with his 4-6, 6-2 (10-8) victory over Zastrow in the fifth flight.
UW-Oshkosh hosts Marian University on Tuesday (April 5) at the Kolf Sports Center outdoor courts.
