Titans Silenced By Thunder

David La Grange and Logan Zastrow won at No. 3 doubles as the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team lost an 8-1 decision to Wheaton College (Ill.) on Saturday (Feb. 28) in Hanover Park, Ill.

La Grange and Zastrow earned UW-Oshkosh's lone team point with their 8-4 victory over Derek Mumaw and Brent Westergren.

Wheaton College (3-4) took the remaining doubles contests with wins from Josh Ward and Karl Wenzel in the first flight and Justin Ancona and Matt Steiner in the second. Ward and Wenzel defeated Mike Gillespie and Aidan Sauberlich, 8-6, while Ancona and Steiner ousted Vincent Gorski and Adam Martin, 8-1.

The Thunder won all six singles matches in straight sets, including Ward's 7-6, 6-0 victory over Gillespie in the first flight and Mumaw's 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Zastrow in the sixth.

Wheaton College recorded its remaining individual victories by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Winning for the Thunder were Ancona over Sauberlich in the second flight, Steiner over Gorski in the third, Lincoln Metz over La Grange in the fourth and Wenzel over Martin in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh (1-6) hosts Marian University next Saturday (March 7) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center. The match marks the Titans' first home contest of the season.
