Warhawks Post Second Win Of Season Over Titans

Bobby Brooks (So. • Neenah) won at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles during UW-Oshkosh's 7-2 loss to the UW-Whitewater men's tennis team on Friday (April 20) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Brooks earned his individual victory with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Byron Balkin. In doubles play, Brooks teamed with Kevin Lewis (So. • Howard) to register a 9-7 win over Balkin and Mitch Osborne.

UW-Whitewater, which beat UW-Oshkosh by an 8-1 score on Feb. 11, led 2-1 after the doubles competition. The Warhawks (17-6) built their lead on wins by Andrew Bayliss and Andy McGlashen in the second flight and Cameron Laktash and Brian Klein in the third. Bayliss and McGlashen defeated Adam Kasper (Jr. • Franklin) and Aidan Sauberlich (Fr. • Green Bay), 8-2, while Laktash and Klein ousted Josh Hopfensperger (So. • Neenah) and Scott Niemi (Sr. • Appleton), 8-1.

UW-Oshkosh's closest individual loss came at No. 6 singles as Kasper dropped a 7-5, 7-5 decision to Brady Porter.

The Warhawks had little trouble in the remaining singles contests as Bayliss, McGlashen, Osborne and Scanlan tallied convincing wins. Bayliss defeated Lewis, 6-1, 6-2, in the second flight, while McGlashen downed Sauberlich, 6-3, 6-0, in the third. Osborne marked a 6-4, 6-0 win over Scott Niemi (Sr. • Appleton) and Scanlan a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Jason Alexander (So. • Fond du Lac) in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh (9-11) concludes its 2012 season by hosting both UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater on Saturday (April 21) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
