WIAC Picks Jernberg As Swimming Athlete Of The Week
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected UW-Oshkosh senior Alex Jernberg as its Kwik Trip Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week for events held Jan. 3-16. It is Jernberg's second WIAC weekly award this season, following his selection for the period of Oct. 25-31.
Jernberg won the 500-yard freestyle and finished second in three other events to pace UW-Oshkosh during its 143-82 road loss to UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 14.
Jernberg defeated his challengers in the 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 5:06.80. He placed second in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 1,000-yard freestyle with swims of 1:02.56 and 10:36.09, respectively. UW-Stevens Point's Beckett McGraw finished second to Jernberg in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.50.
Jernberg additionally helped teammates Andrew Copeland, Drew Davis and Chase Millam to a second-place time of 3:29.09 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
During UW-Oshkosh's 84-29 road victory over Beloit College on Jan. 7, Jernberg swam to a pair of first-place finishes.
Jernberg won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.15 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a performance of 1:04.53.
UW-Stevens Point's Cal Straub was chosen as the WIAC's Men's Diving Athlete of the Week.
