Lieder Breaks Own School Record During Meet With Warhawks

Jarrett Lieder and Josiah Vandenberg both won one event, finished third in another and swam on a pair of first-place relays during UW-Oshkosh's unscored men's swimming & diving dual meet against UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Feb. 20) in Whitewater.

Lieder took first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a school-record time of 4:12.96 and finished third in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a swim of 11:00.36. Lieder broke his own school record in the 400-yard individual medley of 4:16.33 set in 2020.

Vandenberg won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.40 and placed third in the 100-yard butterfly with a performance of 54.91 seconds.

Lieder and Vandenberg also swam together on the Titans' victorious 400-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay units that registered times of 3:16.78 and 3:37.24, respectively. Lieder and Vandenberg were joined by Brennan Hoem and Robert Thomasberg in the 400-yard freestyle relay and by David Bain and Alex Jernberg in the 400-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh completed its first-place listings with the times of 1:49.41 in the 200-yard freestyle by Hoem, 10:27.77 in the 1,000-yard freestyle by Jernberg and 54.72 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly by Thomasberg.

Hoem and Jernberg owned the Titans' only two second-place results with their times of 50.08 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 2:15.64 in the 200-yard breaststroke, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining third-place swims belonged to Bain, Cody Else and Matt Holst. Bain posted times of 57.03 seconds in the 100- and 2:08.74 in the 200-yard backstrokes while Else went 2:32.99 in the 200-yard breaststroke and Holst 1:09.03 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Else also finished fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:32.94.

Andrew Copeland rounded out the Titans' top-four individual performances with his fourth-place time of 2:33.01 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Copeland was also involved in a pair of fourth-place finishes in the relays. He swam with Bain, Else and Jernberg for a time of 3:34.03 in the 400-yard freestyle relay and Else, Hoem and Thomasberg for a result of 3:47.31 in the 400-yard medley relay

UW-Whitewater had one multiple event winner, Simeon Gray who earned first-place scores of 147.45 off the 3-meter board and 104.00 off the 1-meter plank.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its abbreviated schedule for the 2021 season by hosting UW-Eau Claire next Saturday (Feb. 27) in Albee Hall.
