Wilke Earns A Pair Of All-America Awards
UW-Oshkosh junior Matt Wilke has received a pair of NCAA Division III All-America decorations from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America for the second consecutive year.
Wilke repeated as an All-America honoree in both the 1- and 3-meter diving categories. He was scheduled to compete in the two events at the Division III Championship on March 18-21 in Greensboro, N.C., but that meet was canceled due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
Due to the cancellation of the Division III Championship, the CSCAA adjusted this year's All-America selection process and presented awards to every championship qualifier to avoid penalizing any student-athlete who didn't have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the All-America Team.
Since 1985 the CSCAA's All-America program was standardized with the top eight finishers at the Division III Championship receiving First Team recognition and the consolation finalists (9-16) being named Honorable Mention.
Wilke earned his second straight trip to the Division III Championship by diving to a pair of top five finishes at the Region 1 Championship held Feb. 28-29 in Granville, Ohio. He competed against 20 other divers at the meet and placed third with 438.50 points off the 3-meter board and fifth with 424.10 points off the 1-meter plank.
Earlier this season Wilke finished second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions at the WIAC Championship with respective scores of 521.20 and 522.25. He also placed second in both diving events at 2018 WIAC Championship and was a second-place finisher off the 1-meter board and a third-place finisher off the 3-meter plank at the 2017 league meet.
Wilke achieved a pair of All-America listings at last year's Division III Championship by placing 13th in the 3- and 16th in the 1-meter diving categories with scores of 458.30 and 407.30, respectively.
Wilke was one of just five Division III Men's Swimming & Diving All-America honorees from the WIAC this season, with the other four all coming from UW-Eau Claire.
