Wilke To Dive At NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh sophomore diver Matt Wilke begins his first appearance at the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championship Thursday (March 21) in Greensboro, N.C.

Wilke and the field of 24 divers compete in the 1-meter preliminaries at 9 a.m. (CDT) Thursday before starting the event finals at 5 p.m. that evening in the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The 3-meter preliminaries commence at 9 a.m. Saturday (March 23) before the event finals begin at 5 p.m.

The top eight finishers during the 1- and 3-meter diving preliminaries will advance to the final and receive All-America recognition. Divers placing ninth through 16th on both boards during the preliminaries will compete in the consolation final.

Wilke, seeking to become UW-Oshkosh's first diver since 2012 to earn All-America honors, qualified for the national 1- and 3-meter diving competitions by virtue of his fifth-place results at the 21-competitor Region 1 Championship held March 1-2 in Crawfordsville, Ind. Wilke finished with scores of 440.55 in the 1-meter event and 457.80 in the 3-meter category at the Region 1 Championships.

Heath Ogawa from Lake Forest College (Ill.) is back to defend his title in the 3-meter competition. Ogawa is also the highest returning finisher on the 1-meter board after placing third at last year's Division III Championship.

Wilke kicked off his trip to the Division III Championship by volunteering with Special Olympics on Tuesday (March 19).
