Hogan, Taylor Set School Records At WIAC Championship

Zach Hogan and Myles Taylor established school records during UW-Oshkosh's participation at the WIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver's) held Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 18-20) at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.

Hogan placed in the top 12 in two backstroke events, including the 200-yard category where he set a UW-Oshkosh record with his time of 2:00.18 in the preliminaries. Hogan finished 10th in the 100- and 12th in the 200-yard backstroke with times in the finals of 54.46 seconds and 2:00.55, respectively.

Taylor's three top-12 finishes included a school-record swim of 4:48.99 in the preliminaries of the 500-yard freestyle. He placed seventh in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.55 and 11th in both the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle with efforts of 54.02 seconds and 4:50.07, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's Tyler Henke contributed a pair of top 10 finishes in the diving. He placed ninth off the 3-meter board with 327.90 points and 10th off the 1-meter plank with 239.45.

Also finishing 10th for the Titans was Grady Hilgendorf, who earned his position with a performance of 17:36.13 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Alec Marquardt and Tyler Shircel both placed 12th for UW-Oshkosh with times of 59.58 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and 4:19.47 in the 400-yard individual medley, respectively.

UW-Stevens Point scored 916.5 points to capture its 17th straight WIAC title and 20th overall. UW-Whitewater finished second in the five-team meet with 742.5 points, while UW-Eau Claire placed third with 594, UW-La Crosse fourth with 563 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 221.

UW-Stevens Point's Nate Somers was named Swimmer of the Meet and UW-La Crosse's Tanner Folvag Diver of the Meet. UW-Stevens Point's Al Boelk claimed Coach of the Year laurels.
