Henke, Shircel Pace Titans At Rochester Invitational

Tyler Henke and Tyler Shircel produced top-10 individual efforts as the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming & diving team placed sixth at the Rochester Invitational on Dec. 4-6 in Rochester, Minn.

St. Cloud State University (Minn.), an NCAA Division II program, won the invitational handily with 1,276.5 points.

NCAA Division I member University of South Dakota placed second with 909.5 points, followed by Division III programs UW-Eau Claire in third place with 564.5 points, UW-La Crosse fourth with 543.5, Luther College (Iowa) fifth with 313 and UW-Oshkosh sixth with 177.

Henke finished seventh in the 3-meter diving competition with 352.95 points and ninth on the 1-meter plank with 331.95 points.

Shircel placed 10th in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:24.51. He also finished 13th in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events with respective times of 1:03.95 and 2:18.89.

Rounding out the Titans' top-10 finishes was the ninth-place effort by the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Sam Green, Grady Hilgendorf, Zach Hogan and Myles Taylor with a time of 7:40.87.

Hilgendorf earned 11th place in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:07.27 and 14th place in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:00.50.

Hogan finished 13th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.56 and 14th in the 100-yard backstroke with a swim of 57.13.

Taylor produced a 14th-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.90 and a 15th-place showing in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 2:07.23.

UW-Oshkosh's other top-20 results were turned in by Sam Green and Alec Marquardt in the 200-yard backstroke. Green placed 14th in 2:09.57 while Marquardt was 16th in 2:14.13.

The Titans face Lawrence University on Friday (Dec. 11) in Appleton.
