Anderson To Swim, Devine To Dive At NCAA Championship
Dalton Anderson (Fr. • Elkhorn) and
Phil Devine (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) will represent UW-Oshkosh
at this weekend's NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving
Championship in Minneapolis, Minn. The four-day meet begins
Wednesday (March 17) and concludes on Saturday (March 20) at the
University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Anderson qualified for the national meet as one of 43 competitors
in the 100-yard butterfly, 25 participants in the 200-yard
butterfly and 45 contestants in the 200-yard individual medley. He
swims Wednesday in the 200-yard individual medley, Thursday in the
100-yard butterfly and Friday in the 200-yard butterfly.
At the WIAC Championship held Feb. 11-13, Anderson established
school records with his second-place times of 50.29 in the 100-yard
butterfly and 1:54.79 in the 200-yard butterfly. He added another
school mark with his ninth-place performance of 1:57.19 in the
200-yard individual medley.
Devine qualified for the national meet as a participant in both
the one and three-meter diving events. Each category features 22
participants, with the three-meter diving scheduled for Wednesday
and the one-meter diving for Saturday.
Devine makes his second straight appearance at the NCAA Division
III Championship. Last year, he collected a pair of All-America
awards by finishing fifth in the one-meter diving with 469.85
points and seventh in the three-meter diving with 466.25.
Earlier this season, Devine was named the Diver of the Meet at the
WIAC Championship. He captured a pair of league titles after
recording first-place scores of 493.10 points in the one-meter
diving and 521.85 in the three-meter diving.
Expected to splash for the team title this weekend are Denison
University (Ohio), Emory University (Ga.), Kalamazoo College
(Mich.), 30-time defending champion Kenyon College (Ohio) and
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. UW-Oshkosh finished 20th at
last year's meet with 48 points.
