Titans Shut Out Green Knights For Eighth Straight Win

Jacob Hernandez assisted on a pair of goals as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team clinched its 31st consecutive winning season with a 3-0 victory over St. Norbert College on Wednesday (Sept. 30) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Titans (9-1-1) scored two goals in the first 30 minutes of play and added another in the final minutes of the match. All three goals were results of set pieces with the first coming from a corner kick and the final two from free kicks.

The outcome also gave UW-Oshkosh its eighth consecutive win and its eighth shutout of the season. The Titans improved their all-time record to 27-5-1 against St. Norbert College after defeating the Green Knights for the eighth straight time.

UW-Oshkosh's first goal came in the 17th minute (16:50) off of the first corner kick of the game. Malcolm Jeffris sent his kick into the box where Jonathan Stanley was able to head home a shot from six yards out. The goal was Stanley's second of the season.

UW-Oshkosh was rewarded a free kick midway through the first half, and the Titans took advantage of the opportunity with an aggressive play by Hernandez. Following the St. Norbert College foul, Hernandez caught the Green Knights off guard with a quick kick to Trent Allison, who delivered a pass to a flashing Nick Gonzales in front of the goal. Gonzales retrieved the pass from Allison and tapped in a three-yard shot during the 30th minute (29:38) of play for his second goal of the year.

The Titans held their two-goal lead until they scored again in the game's 87th minute (86:18). This time, Hernandez sent a low free kick to the top of the box where Alec Pasick smashed a low 18-yard shot into the left side of the net. The goal was Pasick's first of the year.

UW-Oshkosh posted an 18-6 advantage in shots and earned all four of the game's corner kicks. The Titans limited the Green Knights (4-5-1) to just two shots in the second half.

Hernandez and Javier Simon led UW-Oshkosh with three shots apiece. In all, the Titans had seven players tally at least one shot on goal. The Green Knights were led by Marco Delbecchi's two shots.

Sam Gabrilska saved two shots while playing the first 83 minutes (82:45) in goal for the Titans before being relieved by Kevin Schenk for the final seven minutes (7:15). Schenk did not face a shot.

Eddie Sanchez tended the St. Norbert College goal for the first 45 minutes and recorded three saves. Tim Fox replaced Sanchez in the second half and notched a pair of saves. St. Norbert College came up with one team save in the first period.

UW-Oshkosh hosts nationally ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) next Wednesday (Oct. 7) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
