Titans Open Trip To Oregon With Shutout Victory

Jacob Hernandez assisted on two of UW-Oshkosh's four goals as the Titans shutout Southwestern University (Texas), 4-0, in a men's soccer match held Friday (Sept. 4) in Salem, Ore.

It was the first match between the teams as well as the first contest for UW-Oshkosh in the state of Oregon.

Hernandez was credited with an assist on UW-Oshkosh's first and third goals of the match. He also attempted two shots, both on goal.

Trent Allison opened the scoring for the Titans (1-1) by following a pass from Hernandez with a 20-yard kick to the lower right corner of the goal during the 17th minute (16:42) of play.

JT Heidvogel doubled UW-Oshkosh's advantage when he executed a beautiful 13-yard bicycle kick to the top of the goal in the 32nd minute (31:52). His second score of the season followed a Jonathan Stanley pass off a corner kick from Scott Brugioni.

Stanley tallied the Titans' third goal with a 21-yard kick during the 57th minute (56:40). His score followed tap passes from Nick Gonzales and Hernandez.

Nick Harenda closed the scoring for UW-Oshkosh with a 16-yard boot in the 71st minute (70:45). Harenda recorded the goal after collecting the ball from a Brugioni shot that was blocked.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 16 shots, including six on goal, and six corner kicks. Allison, Hernandez and Heidvogel led the Titans with two shots each.

Southwestern University (0-2) was limited to just five shots and one corner kick. Philip Nelson had the Pirates' lone shot on goal.

Sam Gabrilska opened at goalkeeper for UW-Oshkosh and guarded the net for 77 minutes (76:17) before being relieved by Kevin Schenk. Gabrilska earned the Titans' lone save with a stop of a first-half shot taken by Nelson.

Southwestern University goalkeeper Travis Carmichael played the entire match and saved two UW-Oshkosh shots, both in the first half.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Salem to play host Willamette University on Sunday (Sept. 6).
