Titans Put Lions Away With Big Second Half

UW-Oshkosh exploded for six second-half goals as it trounced Finlandia University (Mich.), 7-0, in a men's soccer match held Sunday (Sept. 18) in Hancock, Mich.

The Titans' big second period featured two goals from both Garrett O'Brien (Sr. • Shoreview, Minn.) and Erik White (So. • East Troy) and one from both Evan Maly (Sr. • Neenah) and Tim Stadler (Sr. • Wauwatosa).

Jonathan Fox (Fr. • Brooklyn) got things going for UW-Oshkosh (4-1-1/2-0 WIAC) by scoring an unassisted goal just 13:40 into play. It was the first collegiate goal for Fox.

UW-Oshkosh's 1-0 lead held up until White scored an unassisted goal in the 49th minute (48:01) of action. It was White's first collegiate goal.

UW-Oshkosh tripled its advantage when Stadler scored off a penalty kick in the 54th minute (53:19). The Titans then blew the match open on goals by O'Brien and White in the 62nd (61:45) and 68th (67:01) minute of play. O'Brien's goal was assisted by Stadler, while White's goal was assisted by Will Chaney (Sr. • Cedarburg) and Robby Giljohann (Sr. • Brookfield).

The Titans closed their scoring on goals by O'Brien in the 73rd minute (72:13) and Maly in the 83rd (82:30). O'Brien's goal was assisted by White and Carlos Alcantara (Fr. • Minneapolis, Minn.). Giljohann was credited with the assist on Maly's goal.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 38 shots, including 21 in the second half. A total of 13 Titans launched shots, with Giljohann, Maly, O'Brien, White and Tony Starnes (Jr. • Green Bay) owning four each. UW-Oshkosh earned 12 corner kicks.

Finlandia University (1-2/0-1 WIAC) was held to just two shots, one from both Randy Grimsley and Edward Smith. The Lions went without a corner kick opportunity.

UW-Oshkosh's three goalkeepers went unchallenged as Taylor Zyvoloski (Fr. • Port Washington) played 45 minutes, Nick Barry (Fr. • Wheaton, Ill.) 24:27 and Joey Wedderspoon (So. • Verona) 20:33.

Finlandia University had two Miguel Gamez and Gerardo Preciado protect its goal. Gamez saved 16 shots and allowed three goals in 61:35, while Preciado saved four shots and yielded four goals in 28:25.

UW-Oshkosh hosts St. Norbert College on Wednesday (Sept. 21) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
