Titans Shut Down Pioneers In WIAC Opener

Ryan Hanna (Fr. • Verona) and Tim Stadler (Jr. • Wauwatosa) provided the scoring with second-half goals as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team opened WIAC play with a 2-0 victory over UW-Platteville on Thursday (Sept. 16) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Hanna put UW-Oshkosh, ranked 20th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), up 1-0 with an assisted goal by Robby Giljohann (Jr. • Pewaukee) in the 67th minute (66:43) of play.

Stadler then doubled UW-Oshkosh's lead when he scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 69th minute (68:27). The Titans (6-0-1/1-0 WIAC) were awarded the penalty kick after a hand ball in the goalie box by a UW-Platteville player.

Goalkeeper James Pike (Jr. • Wauwatosa) preserved UW-Oshkosh's sixth shutout of the season by saving six shots, all in the second half. UW-Platteville goalkeeper Jared Kuehl saved four shots, two in each period.

UW-Oshkosh, which has outscored its seven opponents this season by a 27-1 count, attempted 14 shots and five corner kicks. The Titans were led by the three shots of both Giljohann and Hanna and the two each of Stadler and Devon Prideaux (Sr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.).

UW-Platteville (3-3-1/0-1 WIAC) totaled 12 shots and three corner kicks. Michael Prudisch launched three shots for the Pioneers and B.J. Gottschlich and Ryan McElmeel two each.

Since 1998, the annual battle between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Platteville has been for the Eberlin Cup. The trophy is named after Fred Eberlin, who coached UW-Platteville for 25 years before retiring in 1997. Eberlin passed away this past summer.

The win over UW-Platteville was also the 350th in the 27-year history of the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer program. The Titans take their all-time record of 350-99-39 into Wednesday's (Sept. 22) match at Marian University.
