Titans Keep Crusaders At Bay

Brian Miller (Sr. • Chippewa Falls) scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Clarke University (Iowa) on Wednesday (Sept. 8) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Miller, who attempted a team-leading three shots against the Crusaders, gave the Titans a 2-0 advantage when he headed Robby Giljohann's (Jr. • Pewaukee) corner kick into the goal in the 18th minute (17:02). Miller then put UW-Oshkosh ahead 3-0 with an assisted goal by Tony Starnes (So. • Green Bay) in the 32nd minute (31:56).

Starnes gave UW-Oshkosh its first goal of the match when he took a pass from Jesse Klein (Jr. • Burnsville, Minn.) and scored in the 16th minute (15:14).

UW-Oshkosh's final goal came in the 41st minute (40:10) as Devon Prideaux (Sr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored off passes from Miller and Giljohann.

UW-Oshkosh pulled the trigger on 20 shots, including three by Miller and two each by Giljohann, Starnes, Brandon Briones (Sr. • Menasha), Mike Franzen (Sr. • Sussex), Ryan Redmond (Fr. • Lake Elmo, Minn.) and Tim Stadler (Jr. • Wauwatosa).

Clarke University blasted nine shots, including five by Dino Ramic. The Crusaders lost the battle of the corner kicks, 4-0.

UW-Oshkosh had three players guard its goal as James Pike (Jr. • Wauwatosa) appeared in the match for 36:00, Tim Gindville (Sr. • New Lenox, Ill.) for 41:20 and Joey Wedderspoon (Fr. • Verona) for 12:40. The lone save for the trio belonged to Gindville.

Clarke University split its goalkeeping duties as Luke Van Meveren and Charlie Fast both played 45 minutes. Van Meveren, allowed all four goals, saved three shots, while Fast saved four.

UW-Oshkosh takes to the road for a match against Grinnell College (Iowa) on Saturday (Sept. 11).
