Titans Win Nationally Ranked Battle With Vikings

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team defeated North Park University 69-64 at the Kolf Sports Center on Saturday night (Nov. 25).

The No. 25 ranked Titans (4-1) shot 48 percent (12-of-25) from three-point range, recorded 10 assists and scored 14 points off the bench, all of which were better than the 21st-ranked Vikings' marks. UW-Oshkosh is now 6-1 against North Park, having won the last three matchups.

Will Mahoney (Sr. • Appleton) once again lead Oshkosh in scoring. He shot five-of-14 from the field, four-of-seven from three and six-of-seven from the line for 20 points and added a team-leading nine rebounds. Quinn Steckbauer (Sr. • Merrill) followed with 18 points and Carter Thomas (So. • Neenah) reached 10.

Jay Dalton (Fr. • Fond du Lac), Matt Imig (So. • Ashwaubenon) and Reed Seckar (So. • Oshkosh) all contributed points off the bench.

The Vikings took the early lead with a five-point run to open play and held that edge until Imig made a layup, giving Oshkosh an 8-7 lead. North Park retook the lead soon after, extending it to as much as six points. Mahoney kicked off an 8-0 spurt for the Titans with a three in the third lead change of the game. Steckbauer made a jump shot and Mahoney added another three-pointer in the run. The Vikings led as late as 46 seconds left in the half, but a Joseph Adamson (Sr. • Horicon) dunk and Mahoney block closed out the first 20 minutes with a 26-26 tie.

A bench technical on the Vikings sent Mahoney to the line for two free throws before the second half started. He made both before two Vikings converted two-point attempts for another lead. Mahoney gave Oshkosh its final lead at 17:44 with a layup. Over the rest of the second half, the Titans led by as much as 10 points twice. They never scored more than five points in the row but kept North Park at bay the entire time. Mahoney scored Oshkosh's final points with two free throws after getting fouled on a rebound. North Park's TJ Gardner made a layup with two seconds left, cutting Oshkosh's edge down to five points.

The Titans return to action for a weekend trip to Washington state on Dec. 7 and 9. They play Whitworth University on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 9 p.m. central time and Whitman College on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. central time.
