Titans Fly By Eagles In Madison

MADISON, Wis.- The nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team flew by Edgewood College by a score of 82-67 at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison on Tuesday night (Nov. 21).

Will Mahoney (Sr. • Appleton) lead the Titans with 23 points and nine rebounds (one offensive). He shot 53.3 percent (eight-of-15) from the field, 25 percent (one-of-four) from three and 66.7 percent (six-of-nine) from the line. Joseph Adamson (Sr. • Horicon) and Quinn Steckbauer (Sr. • Merrill) each contributed 16 points. Mahoney stole three balls and Adamson registered both of Oshkosh's blocks.

UW-Oshkosh (3-1) shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the field, 23.5 percent (four-of-17) from three and 74.1 percent (20-of-27) from the line in the win, pacing the Eagles (0-3) in field goal percentage and free throw percentage. The Titans also held the lead for 30:14 of the 40 minute contest and scored 13 points on turnovers against Edgewood's seven.

Steckbauer scored the first basket of the game after the Titans won the tip on a layup 10 seconds in, extending the lead to five points with his first three. Edgewood took its first lead with a three-point basket at 13:01, followed by three lead changes the rest of the half. UW-Oshkosh scored 11-straight, fighting back from a 26-23 deficit. Matt Imig (So. • Ashwaubenon) and Reed Seckar (So. • Oshkosh) each converted a three-point attempt in the run. After an Eagle three, the Titans had a 34-28 lead at halftime.

Adamson kicked off second-half scoring with two free throws on a shooting foul, followed up by a Mahoney layup. After the teams traded points for over half of the second half, UW-Oshkosh went on a six-point run for 14 point edge. A hook shot from Carter Thomas (So. • Neenah) at 4:08 gave the Titans the largest lead of the game at 74-55.

The Eagles scored eight points off the Thomas basket, decreasing the deficit to 11 points, however the Titans more than doubled Edgewood's four points the rest of the way.

The Titans return to action at home on Saturday (Nov. 25), facing North Park University (Ill.) at 4 p.m. Oshkosh is 5-1 against the Vikings since the first meeting in 1994.
