Titans Win First Game In Great Lakes Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team beat La Roche University (Pa.) 77-68 on Friday (Nov. 17) at Wittenberg University (Ohio) in the Great Lakes Invitational.

The Titans (2-0) got the better of the Redhawks (0-3) in points off turnovers (18-5), points in the paint (32-16), and second chance points (16-8).

Quinn Steckbauer (Sr. • Merrill) led the scoring for Oshkosh with 24 points. He also added a rebound and shot five-of-six from the free throw line. Will Mahoney (Sr. • Appleton) contributed 14 points, his second consecutive game scoring in double digits.

Jonah Rindfleisch (Jr. • Milwaukee) was dominant on the boards, hauling in 12 rebounds. He also shot two-of-four from the field, adding six points.

The game started off tight, with both teams struggling to score early. After a jump shot from Joseph Adamson (Sr. • Horicon) brought Oshkosh to a 2-point deficit, La Roche hit a couple free throws and a three-pointer to give them their largest lead of the game at 34-27.

Back-to-back threes from Steckbauer and Rindfleisch brought the Titans to within one with 2:52 left in the first half. Jay Dalton  (Fr. • Fond du Lac) hit a layup with 2 seconds left in the half to give Oshkosh the lead at halftime, 39-38.

The Titans started to pull away in the second half after a 15-5 run put them ahead 54-45. The run included seven points, an assist, and a steal from Mahoney.

La Roche was able to bring the lead down to 55-51 with a layup from Jerique Walker, but Oshkosh quickly turned it on and went on an 18-4 run. Steckbauer scored nine of his points during this run.

Two free throws from Steckbauer with 47 seconds remaining gave Oshkosh their final points of the game and a 77-68 victory.

The Titans return to action on Saturday (Nov. 18) against the University of Redlands (Calif.) at 2:00 p.m. in Springfield, Ohio at the Great Lakes Invitational.
