Titans Win Easily Over Eagles

Hunter Plamann paced all players with 19 points, Levi Borchert produced a double-double and the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team sailed past Edgewood College, 72-49, on Tuesday (Nov. 23) in Madison.

UW-Oshkosh (6-1), ranked 17th in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, put together its best defensive scoring effort in nearly three years, limiting Edgewood College to 33.3% (20-60) shooting from the field and outrebounding the Eagles, 53-29, on the way to earning its 11th consecutive win in the series.

The Titans turned an 11-9 deficit early in the first half into a 40-20 halftime lead as the Eagles were outrebounded, 28-11, including 10-3 on the offensive end, and shot just 9-for-29 (.310) from the floor during the opening period. UW-Oshkosh put the game away with a string of 15 unanswered points during the span of more than six minutes for a 38-15 advantage with 87 seconds to play in the first half.

Nick Otto fed Jonah Rindfleisch for a dunk to spark UW-Oshkosh's 15-0 run that featured five points from Plamann and four from Borchert.

UW-Oshkosh allowed its fewest points since defeating Finlandia University (Mich.) by a 95-48 score Dec. 4, 2018. The 53 rebounds Tuesday were the program's most since collecting 55 during a 99-80 win over Edgewood College in the most recent prior meeting between the teams Nov. 26, 2019.

Edgewood College (0-3), which was playing its home opener Tuesday, was seeking its first victory over the Titans since a 56-52 decision Dec. 28, 2003.

Plamann added six rebounds and a season high-tying six assists to go along with his 19 points while Borchert finished with 18 points and a season best 16 rebounds to notch his fourth double-double this season and 12th career.

UW-Oshkosh had nine scorers as Rindfleisch and Eddie Muench contributed seven points apiece, JT Petrie six and Otto five. Eric Peterson matched his season high with 10 rebounds for the Titans.

The Titans concluded the contest shooting 42.2% (27-64) from the floor, 30.4% (7-23) from 3-point range and 64.7% (11-17) at the free throw line. UW-Oshkosh also owned advantages of 16-6 in offensive rebounds and 14-10 in assists. Both teams recorded six steals.

Edgewood College went 3-for-16 (.188) from beyond the 3-point arc, 6-for-12 (.500) at the foul line and held edges of 11-13 in turnovers and 6-4 in blocks.

Jake Schroenkenthaler had 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocks to lead the Eagles.

The Titans maintained a double digit lead for final 27:10 following Rindfleaich's dunk that provided a 25-15 advantage. UW-Oshkosh held its largest lead of 31 points at 70-39 after a Plamann 3-pointer with 3:33 remaining in the game.
