Titans Pull Away From Falcons With Big Second Half

Eddie Muench led five UW-Oshkosh double digit scorers with 20 points and Levi Borchert added a double-double as the Titans produced a dominant second half on the way to trouncing the Concordia University Wisconsin men's basketball team, 96-62, on Monday (Nov. 8) in Mequon.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0), ranked 17th nationlly in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, shot better than 50% from the floor during both halves and limited Concordia University Wisconsin to a .320 (8-25) field goal percentage during the second period en route to outscoring the Falcons, 50-26, over the final 20 minutes.

The Titans claimed their first lead of the game at 7-4 on a Muench 3-pointer at the 15:59 mark of the first half and never looked back, extending their cushion to 21-8 following 11 consecutive points from Hunter Plamann. The Falcons never got closer than seven points after the first of three straight Plamann 3-pointers provided UW-Oshkosh with a 13-4 advantage with 13:53 left in the first half.

Concordia University Wisconsin (0-1) pulled within 50-43 at the 17:55 mark of the second half, but UW-Oshkosh responded with a 21-4 run over the ensuing seven minutes for what proved to be an insurmountable 71-47 advantage with just over 10 minutes to play. Muench and Quinn Steckbauer both had five points during UW-Oshkosh's decisive 21-4 run that featured five different scorers.

Muench and Plamann, who finished with 16 points, knocked down three 3-pointers apiece for the Titans, who also received 15 points and five steals from Cole Booth.

Steckbauer ended the contest with 11 points for the Titans while Eric Peterson grabbed 10 rebounds and collected five steals. Jonah Rindfleisch chipped in eight points off the UW-Oshkosh bench.

UW-Oshkosh went 37 of 70 (.529) from the floor, 10 of 27 (.370) from 3-point range and 12 of 18 (.667) at the free throw line. The Titans owned advantages of 44-28 in rebounds, 21-13 in assists, 9-16 in turnovers and 13-3 in steals.

Concordia University Wisconsin shot 39.3% (24-61) from the field, 25% (5-20) from beyond the 3-point arc and 69.2% (9-13) at the foul line. The Falcons held an 8-5 edge in blocks.

Jordan Johnson scored a game high 27 points on 10 of 19 shooting from the field and recorded a team best six rebounds for the Falcons, who also received 14 points and five assists from Jared Jurss, and 10 points and six rebounds from Brandon Keller.

UW-Oshkosh improved to 4-1 against the Falcons, including a 90-68 win in the previous meeting between the teams Dec. 30, 2018.

The Titans travel to Bloomington, Ill., this weekend for a pair of nonconference contests, beginning with a game against Saint John's University (Minn.) on Friday (Nov. 12).
