Boots, Flynn Chosen To All-WIAC Basketball First Team
First Team selections Ben Boots and Jack Flynn headline three UW-Oshkosh players named to the 2018 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Basketball Team.
UW-Oshkosh's Adam Fravert earned All-WIAC honorable mention laurels, giving the Titans three players on the all-conference team for the first time since 2009.
Boots received first team honors for the second straight season while Flynn and Fravert earned all-league recognition for the first time.
Boots, Flynn and Fravert have combined to lead UW-Oshkosh in scoring during all but four of the Titans' 27 games this season.
Boots, a junior guard, is averaging a team-high 15.2 points, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He paces the conference with 118 assists and a 2.23 assist-to-turnover ratio while ranking second in the league with an .862 free throw percentage and 106 made free throws.
Boots, who ranks 27th on UW-Oshkosh's all-time scoring list with 1,076 career points, has scored in double figures 23 times this year, including a season-high 25 points against Ripon College. He also produced 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists against Calvin College (Mich.), and a season-best eight assists against both UW-Stevens Point and Willamette University (Ore.).
Flynn, who leads the WIAC with a .638 field goal percentage and 99 offensive rebounds, averages 13.5 points and 7.1 boards per contest. The sophomore center has tallied eight double-doubles this season, including a 24-point, 10-rebound performance against UW-La Crosse.
Flynn ranks third in the conference in rebounds (193) and blocks (17) while listing ninth in points (365). He has counted double-digit points on 22 occasions this season, including 20 or more points in six contests.
Fravert, a junior forward, averages 12.6 points and a team-best 7.6 rebounds per game while registering a WIAC-leading 165 defensive boards and 33 blocks. He also ranks third in the conference with 80 assists and eighth with a .512 field goal percentage.
Fravert, who has recorded six double-doubles and 18 double-digit scoring efforts this year, had a season-high 25 points with 10 rebounds against Saint Mary's University (Minn.). He also compiled 22 points and a season-best 15 rebounds against Edgewood College.
The All-WIAC 10-member First Team also included UW-Eau Claire's George Diekelman, UW-La Crosse's Ben Meinholz, UW-Platteville's Robert Duax and Matt Oestreich, UW-Stevens Point's MJ Delmore and Canon O'Heron, UW-River Falls' Alex Herink, and UW-Whitewater's Andre Brown.
Duax was named WIAC Player of the Year. UW-Platteville's Jeff Gard received the league's Coach of the Year award.
The Titans finished third in this year's WIAC standings with a 9-5 record and advanced to the semifinal round of the league tournament.
UW-Oshkosh received an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Championship after compiling a 20-7 regular-season record. The Titans, making their third straight and eighth overall national tournament appearance, begin postseason play against Marietta College (Ohio) (21-6) on Friday (March 2) in Springfield, Ohio.
